I’m hot and sweaty and tired. I have been working all week but we did get some nice work done. Here’s some shots of what i did….
i should have posted a before shot… but this is my flower garden… i did it on thursday. Today all the flowers are blooming… i don’t have a picture of that…. but before i started it was knee high overgrown weeds and rocks… it was hard to make it look like this.
these are our core values…. and they all have coordinating colors… i’m not sure why… but i painted them accordingly anyway.
our camp sign…. you should have seen the old one… yikes… it was rotted and cracked and gray and the letters were all different sizes and crooked… and it only said “camp buff” the rest was worn off… we needed a new one… we don’t want kids thinking they’re supposed to come to camp and take their clothes off…
this is my sunburn…. before it really started to “show up” not a good line… but it might have been worth it for all of my hard work.

- today was the last day of school for my kindergardeners… and i had mixed feelings… i’m ready for summer, but i’m going to miss my kids SOOO much. Many of the parents thanked me and said i was the best YMCA worker their kids had ever had…. of course this is their first year in afterschool care. =) And the kids all gave me big hugs, many not wanting to leave…. broke my heart. I actually cried on my way home.
- Before work I dropped by a friend’s apt to say goodbye. He just got a “real” job out of state and is moving. He’s one the best if not the best friend i’ve had since i’ve been in texas. I pretty much cried for like 10 min after i got in the car and left…. I guess it’s an emotional day.
- i got sunburned yesterday while working in the yard getting it ready for camp. I made a flower garden… it’s super cute. but the burn isn’t…. the lines rival softball tan days…. not a great way to start the summer
- Mather got the call from Memphis today! can’t wait to see what he can do!
- While watching our friday movie today at the Y… there was a church scene, and it was very traditional and in an old white country church, steeple and all. My kids aren’t used to this sort of thing and this is the conversation that followed
Colby: Wait!! did someone die??
Me: No, they’re just at church
Tyeler: That’s not church! Church isnt like that!

this morning i was at the Y for some last training before summer camp starts on monday. Some of the other afterschool site directors and i were talking about our kids and i mentioned that I hadn’t had anyone throw up in quite sometime. As soon as the words came out of my mouth i was wishing i could pull them back in…. knowing i had jinxed myself…. sure enough…. chunky soup aka ryan dropped it today….. He came in saying that he had just come from the nurse because he had already thrown up once. About an hour later he threw up again…. poor baby… it wasn’t too bad to clean up tho because he just threw up straight water…. but the best part was when he finished and sat down, one of my other boys asked him if he touched his uvula (except he said YOU-Gah-La) because that “makes you heave your lunch”

I’ve been told i need to share how great my doctor is…. I went to see him last Feb because i felt like i might be getting strep and i was home so i thought i’d get some meds while i could… this was our conversation
Me: well i wasn’t sure if i should come in or not, because i don’t really FEEL sick
Dr. K: well you look terrible!
Me: wow… thanks for that.
friday i went back to the doctor… as you will know if you read my previous post. this was our notable conversation on friday…
Dr. K: are you sexually active
Me: nope
Dr. K: (shocked face) REALLY??
Me:… (hesitate)… um… no
Dr. K: (crinkles his nose and crosses his arms… REALLY???
Me: (feeling kinda stupid)…. i mean it’s by choice… its not cuz i’m a loser
Dr. K: (blushing) no no no i mean, that’s usually the big trigger for a UTI…. well then, why do you have a bladder infection?
Me: I don’t know!! you’re my doctor!!!
Dr. K: hmmm good point.

Bad news…. my first item of business back home… going to the doctor. I have a urinary tract infection of some sort… not really fun…. and my pee smells like eggs…. not rotton ones but fresh hardboiled ones…. it almost smells good… but weird right? (tmi?)
Good news…. I successfully peed in the cup at the doctor! I’ve never been able to do that… performance anxiety or something…. but i sat right down and just peed without worry…. i did drink a whole lot of water at lunch so i’d be able to…. but still!!! I think i’m growing up, I got to wear my big girl panties today and everything!!

Today it was really sunny and pretty warm… so all of my kids were whining while we were outside. I don’t take whining real well, so the more they whined the more i told them that they had to stay outside. (i’m kinda mean) One of my boys just wouldn’t leave me alone about it being too hot and I told him if he didn’t stop whining, i’d give him something to whine about (i know, I know, how much do i sound like my mom) well he didn’t stop whining so i put him in timeout… and in timeout, you have to sit in the sun. (it wouldn’t be real timeout if you just got to chill in the shade… where’s the punishment in that? anyway…. this was the face he made while in timeout…. priceless

We had a training for the Y this weekend… it was an overnight deal at this camp out in the middle of nowhere. I was feeling my allergies being funny as soon as i woke up yesterday morning, so i took some medicine before heading to the Y (i had to be there by 6:30am on saturday) by the time i got to the camp, my allergies were out of control… i was itchy and swollen, and dripping, and watering, and pressure was building… it was bad…. i took some more meds, but it didn’t seem to help…. by 9pm i had a fever of 100.4 (which is fairly high for me because i’m naturally about 96.8 rather than 98.6…. dyslexia at its best) My boss sent me to bed rather than finishing the night… i slept a good hour and half before people started coming back to the cabin and all my coworkers acted like 15 year old screamy, giggly girls…. I didn’t get back to sleep until about 1:30…. all the while my temp was rising…. the next three hours was pretty restless…. my boss even woke me up to check on me at one point because i was yelling and crying in my sleep. I had a session this morning and then skipped lunch to go back to bed and i FINALLY broke my fever. I still felt pretty puny, but i was alright the bus ride home. We got back to the Y and loaded up my car to head back to school… and to bed… and my car was dead. AAAAHHHH! I got a friend to jump me…. hopefully it was a fluke and i don’t have a bad battery….. i guess we’ll see tomorrow…. i’m going to bed.

Welly have such a good outing…. only one hit through 7
Izzy have a one two three 9th…. although out #2 was a longer out than i’d like, he was missing bats with several swinging strikes…. always promising.
the davids make the idol finale…. you know you’re glad too

My summer schedule…. I’ll average 36 hours a week… and can pick up more hours from others here and there. And i’ll have my evenings free… I’ll work 7am to 130pm except for field trip days because i’ll be away from the site and won’t get off until 5:30ish…. that’ll be along day, but it will be fun since it’s a field trip. Also one of those days we’ll be going to the local movie theatre to eat up a couple of hours… and most days i’ll have discovery camp kids (4 and 5 year olds) which means i have nap time.
No pee-ers today…. however i did have one kid that cried for about an hour…. not an “i’m hurt,” or, “my feelings are hurt,” cry…. just a, ” i’m mad and throwing a fit” cry…. It was annoying…. I mostly ignored him… Once he discovered ants on the ground and realized that if he ripped their heads off, their legs still squirmed for a while, the crying ended.
(did i keep the baseball content low enough for you Kelli???)

today my kids were ROTTEN.
by the time we got outside… which was pretty much the first thing we did… i had all of my kids except for 3 in timeout. One of my girls… alexus… didn’t want to be in timeout so she told me she had to go to the bathroom (we had just come from the bathroom and she was in there about 5 minutes before this) I told her that she should have gone when it was her turn and not played, and that I had told her that it was her only chance to go, so she’s have to tough it out.
She then informed that she had peed in her pants (somehow she thought this would get her out of timeout) I could tell by looking at her that she hadn’t, but i said…. well i’m sorry alexus, i’ll call mom. She freaked out. I said… no no you aren’t in trouble, i’m just calling her so she can bring you some new clothes. Alexus then threw a fit about not wanting new clothes (because if her mom came, she would be caught for not actually peeing her pants) So i sent her once again to timeout and told her that she wasn’t getting out of timeout that easily.
At this alexus squatted in the grass and peed. full out peed, through her jeans, in the grass…. JUST TO SPITE ME!!!! I called her mom… and her mom couldn’t come so she talked to alexus and told her she’s have to sit in it…. And she did… for two and a half hours…. and i put her back in timeout.
She may think she can pee her pants to spite me…. but i’d say game, set, match, miss kristi wins.

i’ve decided that i miss stephanie levan…. not that i don’t miss her a lot… or that i don’t miss the rest of you… cuz i totally do… but i’ve been thinking about her a lot this week…
one: i went to fine arts festival to watch some of my kids compete, and they had a sign language event… and i really wanted her here to translate for me… and tell me how bad the kids were doing… (sometimes i’m kinda cynical)
two: my earlier entry of the john wilkes boothe poem made me think of all our stories and stephs great song writing abilities…. the story about the pb&j sandwich (it was so shaksperian). split splat, Mr. hake you’re the one.. you make bball lots of fun, mr. hake we are awfully fond of you… mr hake can’t shoot threes mr hake never wins sodies…. mr hake wears oiler clothes, mr hake has twinkle toes.. mr hake he’s our very best coach it’s true….
Three: countless videos… speck cream, mexican cooking show… with arab interuptions…. the rhyming knife infomercial… the hallway of learning.
Annual Christmas parties complete with scavenger hunts and girls running and giggling and falling up several flights of stairs…. even after we reached our 20’s
who can forget our abstinence slogan, “babies are heavy, don’t have sex”
